About

The Group was formed in 1987. At the time the Victorian Government had proposed adoption of aboriginal names for the Grampians, Gariwerd, and Halls Gap, Budja Budja, and the Group's founders thought it appropriate to include the aboriginal word Biarri, pronounced bee-ah-re ,which means to search or to hunt, in it's name. So the Stawell Biarri Group of the Genealogical Society of Victoria was formed. The name was later changed to the Stawell Biarri Group for Genealogy Inc.
